In America, land of exceptionalism, we have a pretty solid system for dealing with mass shootings. We have around 1-2 shootings per month- sometimes 3 or 4, or occasionally 5 or more. So immediately afterwards, even before the victims have fully bled out, we get really angry and start debating about the political leanings of the shooter. Then our venerable, highly militarized law enforcement apparatus and government officials start strutting around in public in order to investigate- eventually interviewing the shooter (if alive) and also his family and friends- and also a few people who barely knew him, like his first grade substitute teacher, for example. Then our corporate media and our 24-7-365 keyboard warriors and various online sleuths construct a comprehensive profile of the shooter so that we have all the pertinent facts such as voting record, social media postings, religious affiliation, etc. that we can spin to vociferously argue that the shooter is from the political party or skin color or religious group that we dislike. By the time all that ends, which could be hours or days but never more than a week or two, it's on to the next shooting and we usually forget about the last one and repeat the cycle all over again.
